What is the Delta Variant?
It seems like we thought the pandemic was over, only to be greeted with a Delta Variant. Like any virus, the COVID-19 virus can mutate, and the Delta Variant is a mutation of the COVID-19 virus. Today, FastLabs is talking more about this new virus and Delta Variant symptoms.
What are the Symptoms of the Delta Variant?
When you need to know how to find out if you have the Delta Variant, you’ll be looking for slightly different symptoms than those of COVID-19. This disease more closely resembles a common cold, including sneezing, congestion, runny nose, and coughing. It also has the distinctive loss of smell that covid-19 has.
How Long Do Delta Variant Symptoms Last?
After weeks of quarantining from COVID-19, it’s a common question to wonder how long the Delta Variant lasts. They last about as long as COVID-19 symptoms, but in this case, the disease is more severe in younger people and children, who were largely asymptomatic from COVID-19.
People who have received the COVID-19 vaccine are more likely to have a mild case of the delta variant if they show symptoms at all. However, those who have not received the vaccine are much more likely to become severely ill. For the most part, however, the symptoms of the delta variant seem to last about 10 days.
Is the Delta Variant More Contagious than COVID?
Yes! The Centers for Disease Control has announced that the Delta Variant is more contagious among people, and even those who received the initial vaccine for COVID-19 may catch the new strain. People living in areas where there is a surge in COVID cases, especially those where the cases are mostly Delta Variant, are encouraged to wear masks, socially distance, and take many of the same precautions they took during the height of the COVID-19 outbreak.
People may also wonder if the Delta Variant is more deadly. For those who haven’t received the COVID-19 vaccine, it may very well be. Each case is different, and the virus is so new that there isn’t a lot of comparisons. However, many more people have more severe symptoms from the Delta Variant, and for those with underlying conditions, the delta variant can be worse.
